I recommend cold storage, of offline storage, for personal files because you cannot totally trust the cloud. You files can becomes compromised for different reasons in the cloud than in your own offline storage, so it is best to use both at the same time.
Recommended are 2 x external USB SSD's, one master and one synchronized as a failsafe.
Additionally recommended is an automatic synchronization with a cloud service to your master backup SSD drive.
