Conversations about mapping all the same are becoming turned into islands. Discord is hell because communist inside it CATEGORIZE your SPEECH in order to control your speech. You are always speaking about something in the wrong section, so they can shut you down. It is designed to be highly authoritarian, it leaves the impression that a public forum cannot exist without an authority micromanaging it.
The Steam Powered User Forums used to exist, and so did VERC. Two very powerful and distinct communities. They were systematically annihilated for reasons only a communist can understand, because objectively where we stand now is nowhere at all. The SPUF forums ultimately were infected with low intelligence individuals who thought the best course of action for humanity was to shut down everything and open a new crappier version.
The Steam forums nowadays are completely terrible, there exists zero culture. It is people from every corner of the Earth asking questions all at the same time, it is the most unproductive thing Valve has ever done.
Nautrally when Valve closed SPUF and VERC, it warped the minds of many opposing community leaders. Valve convinced everyone a normal forum was no longer viable, we now needed a mega forum. Everyone calls Gabe Newell a libertarian, yet he nationalized the forum and completely destroyed it. It's not any different than a socialist country taking over a utility that was previously a private enterprise, and then delivering rolling blackouts. Gabe Newell's oversight of what happened to the forum in general inside his own ecosystem was Venezuella.

VERC and SPUF should have remained as Stewards of the Goldsrc medium.
Valve did everything they did under the guise of "new fangled".
